Anyway. Back to the ridiculous hat...
It is WAY to big despite the fact that I ignored the pattern at several stages to make it smaller. I used this book and should have guessed they would make up big by the look of the child on the right hand side of the front cover who is almost drowning in her hat.
The hat has been through the washing machine on hot and through the tumble dryer in the vain hope it would felt (no was the answer).
Miss Eloise is thrilled with it despite it's hugeness. I'm sure she won't mind growing some Bob Marley Dreads to keep it on her head a little better. If she gets cold in winter she can always use it as a sleeping bag.
Miss Yoghurt-chops.
I had to resort to bribery for this particular fashion shoot!

It looks fabulous though! Miss Eloise must be one of those people who can just wear any hat and look fantastic because it really does look great. Laughed at your Eloise-knitting story - very cute :) K
That is ridiculously CUTE! xo m.
Better too big than too small. That's my motto anyway.
Thank you for the link to that challenge. How good was that! Hadn't seen it, so I've entered! Why not?
Love it! That big slouchy look is in!
oh that is cool! yip she totally pulls it off
Here's to ridiculous hats, I love them, yours included!
Isn't it a bummer when you finish making something and it's too big/too small. It looks very cute anyway. Love the little "wee willy winkie" end :)
I love the hat & I think that the size adds to the appeal. Great work.
She looks like a little surfer! ;)
i think it's adorable and she wears it very well!
Ooh love it! I'm jealous of people who can knit. I really need to learn now that I have someone to knit cute things for too!
I love the hat! I love ridiculous hats, I love making ridiculous hats. Today was crazy hat day at my niece and nephew's school, last crazy hat day, my nephew wore the really crazy one I made here: http://www.ayorata.com/2009/05/instant-gratification.html
It looks great! too big is better than too tight at least she will grow into it. When my Eloise wanted to learn to crochet it was a very similar story, she often picks up my crochet makes some wild movements with the hook and then hands it back. Love the colours
I think it is rather cute!
How about lining it with polar fleece to make it more fitting?
This is absoloutely adorable. It is like a little elf or gnome hat. It wouldn't look half as good if it was smaller. xxNick
I've done that big hat thing more times than I can count. It's still a sweet keeper, I reckon. Nothing that a couple of bits of gaffer tape wouldn't fix (what the Mr would say)...
Lovely story and Eloise looks great.
I have a 7 year old who is learning to knit........ say no more!!
haha, you are so funny Sarah! I love reading your blog :)
When she looks so cute in her hat it doesn't matter that it's a little big.:)
I *love* the too-big slouchy look, she rocks it!
Maybe it is ridiculous - but it is certainly a super cute hat too!
Ridiculous, maybe, but dang is it darling on her! I had to laugh at the thought of dreads on that sweet girl.
OK she is just adorable ....And I think the hat looks perfect on her...:)
aww, gorgeous hat! she looks cute in it!
thank you for your comment on my creative space and you guessed correctly what im making. by the way, i do happen to have the monkey, so i might be able to help you out! let me know :)
That's a classic :-) cute pics
It's not ridiculous it's lovely! Anyway isn't it the general rule of thumb when making things for kids, to make a size bigger to get better wear out if it...Oh I sound just like my mother!! It is so typical that the things you desperately want to shrink in the wash, never do!!
well your litte one definitely pulls it off, it looks adorable on her.
