My Creative Space - markets

I have two markets this weekend.
So I'm quite busy making stuff this week.
OK, so I'm very busy. Not quite as busy as some very talented but completely crazy people who have been galavanting all over the country selling their gorgeous goodies and have not two, but three markets this coming weekend. I feel like a complete lightweight!
So anyway, back to my creative space. Quite busy. Projects have been accompanying me to places like swimming lessons and playgrounds. Trust me, there are some things that just don't work as portable projects. Stuffing fake flowers into metres of tulle for instance, is not a great portable project. And I believe there are quite strict rules against using sewing machines next to swimming pools.
Sock monkeys are quite portable. In fact these two were made during last week's very exciting episode of Outrageous Fortune. Perhaps I should name them Judd and Pascale?
I've been having lots of fun creating and making. I do enjoy a good high pressured sew-a-thon, but it can get quite dangerous. There was the bit earlier this week, when I blew up my iron (flames came out, very dramatic... don't iron stuff with pins in okay?). And then there's all the broken sewing machine needles which never, ever break gently, but tend to fly off like tiny ninjas on bungy cords.  And don't get me started on the pins stuck in bare feet (I can't sew in shoes). It's amazing crafters don't incur high insurance premiums really. I wonder how many of the claims that ACC receives each year are for craft-related accidents?
I can't stay at my sewing machine all the time so I've been making some more tape measure rose brooches too. I quite like the colours of these ones. I think I might keep that green one myself. Looks quite summery.

So what are you doing this weekend? Oh, you're coming to visit me at the markets? That's lovely, thank you! I should tell you where they are shouldn't I? There's one on Saturday 6th at Micheal Park Steiner School, 55 Amy Street, Ellerslie, 9.30am- 3pm and the other is on Sunday 7th: Devonport Craft Market, 32 Clarence Street, Devonport, 10am-3pm. They'll both be great days out, but the Saturday Micheal Park one is particularly fabulous if you have kids. Just make sure you bring another responsible adult with you to look after them while you go shopping and drink coffee.

Talking of coffee, you should go and make one now and head over to Kirsty's where there are lots and lots of gorgeous Creative Spaces to see. Have a great day and see you at the weekend!

Ah, wouldn't it be wonderful if you could take your sewing machine to swimming lessons? The inventor of the portable, waterproof, battery-operated machine would be very rich indeed!

Good luck with your markets. I love the flower-filled tulle skirts. They are really pretty.

I also can't sew in shoes. (Awkward, as my sewing room is by far the coldest in the house...) Loving that cowboy apron!

You seriously need to put on a Wonder Woman cape, because I'm exhausted just reading about all the work you're doing. Hope your markets go fantastically.

Hope your markets go well. Portable craft is the best for kids activities (and I am yet to lose my ball of wool in the swimming pool although it has come close once or twice).

I love the tulle skirts.

Would love to come visit you, but its a bit of a hike from Chch. Just look at that well stocked clothes rail - you should be very proud of your mammoth effort.

I have a scar by my eye and one on the sole of my foot, both involved run-ins with needles - the machine (eye) and hand (foot) type ones. A good reason to wear glasses at the machine, but the flowerchild in me can't ever allow shoe wearing inside the house. Best of luck with the markets.

You are an industrious one!

I hope you sell every little bit ... you deserve to.

It all looks wonderful. I'm a barefoot sewer too.

what a great post - your stuff is looking just fantastic... and I can't believe you can make two sock monkeys and hour! Good luck with this weekends markets (have I already said that?)

P.S my sewing teacher once swallowed a mouth full of pins! She's constantly telling you not to put pins in your mouth followed by this story of a weeks worth of porridge and pain - shivers thinking of it!
