Devonport Craft Market tomorrow!

Hip hip hooray! Its another Devonport Craft Market tomorrow and I really can't wait. One of the benefits of organising the market is being able to set my stall up the evening before whilst our fantastic "Table Boys" set up all the other tables and sort the venue out. There was such a beautiful light coming through the windows whilst we set up today that I couldn't resist a photo of my stall.
Putting the markets on every month is an awful lot of hard work for Sarah and I but I really do love it when they come around again. Its a chance to see a whole bunch of friends and like minded peeps and I get to see all the beautiful things they have been working on all month. I don't have too many new things this month but I do have this lovely wee elephant who I'm rather fond of. Her name is Rosie. I sold my other elephant, Wilfred, at Kraftbomb last week and I felt the need to replace him. Let's hope she gets a lovely new home tomorrow.

The best thing about tomorrow is that my wonderful parents and my Nan will be visiting the market for the first time. They are in Auckland for one day on a cruise. Fantastic timing! I can't wait to see them. Lots to look forward to. See you tomorrow.

Clever Kiwis Etsy Treasury

I was inspired by Cat Taylor's blog post earlier this week to create my own Etsy Treasury. So much fun and waiting for the counter to get down to 333 was almost like winning something!

Thanks

to all the lovely people who came to Kraftbomb today!

I got to sit next to the incredibly talented Jamie of Porcelain Rove and admire her wonderful pottery close up. I love her Movember mugs

I indulged and got the Bird journal in this group from Ruby in the Dust journal:

The illustrations inside it are just beautiful. Love it. Thanks so much for saving it for me Heleen!

Skin of my teeth

Just about to go and pack my car for Kraftbomb but couldn't resist including a pic of my latest stall additions.

See you there!

Kraftbomb tomorrow!

Kraftbomb tomorrow and I'm rather excited! It was too sunny today to
stay inside and craft so we went here instead:
Kare Kare beach ... just stunning.
The beach was wonderful and the last minute dinner invitation from friends was even better.
It may well be a late night for me though. I have a couple more
of these new dollies to finish off before bed.

Hope to see you tomorrow.

Just dotty about this fabric...

I love it when I get the opportunity to make something special for someone.

I met a lovely lady at Crafternoon Tea last Saturday and she was drawn to some fabric I had made up into a baby bib. The problem was that she was a little too grown up to wear a bib. Here's what I made for her instead:

The little girls are from a piece of Michael Miller "Dick and Jane" fabric and the lining is some beautiful soft shirting.

This is a close up of the other side.

It's going to it's new home tomorrow. Thank you F for asking me to make it for you!

I'm working on some other commissions at the moment so I'll post pics when I've finished them.

A great day for Tea

I had a lovely time at Auckland's newest craft market yesterday. Crafternoon Tea was a great success despite the hideous weather.

It was lovely to see some friends from The Devonport Craft Market selling there and to meet some amazing new sellers.

My particular favourite was the SofTings stall. Jennie Walker makes the most beautiful portrait dolls with handpainted faces as well as a whole bunch of other incredible goodies. Here are a couple of her dolls.

I've ordered one and one of her cushions. Can't wait to get them!

I met some wonderfully interesting people who came to buy too and was thrilled to see lots of my brooches go to new homes. This may have helped with that:

It was on the front page of the Herald Time Out. Several lovely people told me that they were what had brought them down to the market. A huge thrill!
I will be at Kraftbomb this coming Sunday so I will be making lots more before then.
Kraftbomb is on at the Grey Lynn Community Centre Sunday 25th October 11-2
Hope to see you there!

Halloween Kraftbomb

What's better than selling your crafty goodies in a room full of like minded crafty people? Doing it in costume of course! Just got the fab news that my application for a stall at the 25th Oct Kraftbomb has been accepted and there's a Halloween theme.
Now to decide what to dress up as...

Pink

Tonight was our Craft Social. This is something we do on the second Sunday of each month and I love it. (You can find more information about it here .) Each month we have a challenge/swap with a theme. This month's theme was pink/breast cancer awareness. I made this applique tea cup teatowel.

Here's our table of goodies.

I was lucky enough to go home with one of Hayley's Queens Head cushions. I have one already and I love them. She sells them under the name 'Blankies' at the DCM. Here are the 'girls'. Jamie of Porcelain Rove (she made the beautiful origami flower tree in one of her handmade cups) came too but she wasn't there for the photo. Snowplow the cat snuck in to join us. He didn't have much to contribute (aside from deciding to maul Jamie's leg half way through the evening).

I made pink cupcakes and had to wear my new apron to show them off. This is the one I bought from Trish/Fireworks Agnes at the last market. I feel like wearing it all the time. And its making me bake a lot. Dangerous!

Hope you had a great weekend. Just in case you didn't, here's some cute ducklings we saw at the Domain yesterday to cheer you up.

This time last year...

... I was getting all glammed up ready for a fab night out at the NZ Music Awards. This year, I have the awards on TV and I'm wearing an apron covered in little bits of snipped off thread and I'm making marmalade and dress-up capes.

I do of course look extremely glamourous in my pinny as it is a Fireworks Agnes one which I bought at last months Devonport Craft Market. It is rather beautiful and even has a little net skirt underneath it. I shall have my picture taken in it when my other half is not out gallavanting with the Hoi Polloi of New Zealand's Music Industry.
Here is my Marmalade. It needs a capital letter as it was my first attempt and I'm quite proud of it.
If you know me and like marmalade, let me know and I will share.

I feel the need to attach pretty pinked circles of fabric over the lids just to add to the whole celebration that is making my own preserves.

Of course, we are still in the depths of school holidays (although they are rapidly coming to a close and there was a demand today for new costumes from the small people in the house. Specifically they wanted to be a Snow Queen and Red Riding Hood.

" No, Mr Wolf, you can't come in."

The Snow Queen and her kitty cat

These capes are spectacularly quick and easy to make. They took me about 20 mins each (but I do have my sewing machine and scissors all out and ready to go). They'd probably take a beginner about 45 minutes tops.

To make a cape that will fit a child aged between about 3 and 7 (just make it longer and wider if you want it larger), choose your fabric and fold it in half. You need two pieces for the cape. Cut the hood out first:

Cut the longest edge (the back) on the fold.

Next, cut out the cape part which is essentially a big semi-circle:

Remember that this is on the fold so when you open it out you will have a semi-circle which will form the cape. Again, its the longest part that goes against the fold.
Now to sew it all together.

Put the hood piece right sides together and stitch along the top (be careful here as its easy to get mixed up). If you have some pinking shears and the cape is unlikely to be washed much, you can pink the raw edge at the front to finish it, but I would suggest hemming it as if your kids are like mine, they will put it on, run outside, wait until you nip inside to grab your camera, fall over and get covered in the most revolting black mud. They will then come inside with muddy feet that resemble those of a hobbit in order to show you that they have mud everywhere. Anyway.... to hem it, just turn the front edge over 1cm and fold it over again by 1cm. Pin or press it in place and stitch.

Now grab your cape, fold it in half and match up the middle of the back of the hood to the fold point. Pin the hood, right sides together, to the cape and stitch it on. You will have two long flappy bits either side. Don't worry about them. They look good when the cape is on, honestly.

Hem the edges of the cape in the same way as you did the hood, attach a couple of pieces of ribbon either side of the hood and you are done.

If you want the snow queen cape, just add a bit of maribou around the hood. You could make it in green or black for elves and witches and I'm quite sure there are lots of warriors out there that need some hooded capes. You can leave the hood off and just use the cape bit to make... um... a cape. Use my applique tutorial to add a dragon or a super hero sign. The options are endless.

Have fun. I'm off to paint my nails or something else hugely glamorous.

Anyone for a spot of Crafternoon Tea?

There's a new market in town and it goes by the name of Crafternoon Tea. I'll be joining several Devonport Craft Market regulars at the Trinity Methodist Church Hall, 400 New North Road in Kingsland on Saturday 17th October 10-2, for a day of stress free craft marketing. I can't wait to just turn up with my table and goodies and leave with none of the clearing up or organising that goes with my days as co-organiser and stallholder at the Devonport Craft market!

Now to get making some more brooches and cupcake pincushions!
See you then!

Something old, something new

I'm so excited about this Sunday's Devonport Craft Market. I've been a very busy girl (despite lots of school holiday adventures and the hideous lemon detox that I've been on this week.. ugh!)
Both girls were out yesterday so I was able to get quite a bit done. I've made some new things for tomorrow's stall:
Some new reusable sandwich wraps in scrummy new prints (excuse my model/young artist's felt tip stained fingers!):

Cute hairbands for the little (and big) girls in your life:

and of course my new Bright & Shiny Tape Measure Brooches:

With something new, comes something old. I found these gorgeously cute kiddy-sized teacups and saucers yesterday. I don't think the two cups belong to the saucers but that certainly doesn't detract from their scrumptiousness and I'm going to put them to work this weekend displaying giftcards and tags.

Finally, there's my brand spanking new brand and logo to show off. I've managed to make a fab banner for my stall using a white linen teatowel, t-shirt transfer paper and some number 8 wire but you will have to wait until tomorrow to see that.

Hope to see you there. Sunday 4th October, 10am-3pm, Devonport Community House, 32 Clarence Street. Bring your pennies!
